Community ID

The Latin American Coalition (LAC) offers a Community ID Card as part of the Interfaith Action Network).

The Latin American Coalition ID Card (a partner of the FaithAction ID Network) provides you with a verifiable form of identification that can be used as a tool by law enforcement and other community agencies (CW Williams Health Clinic) to better identify, serve, and protect you.*

*May or may not be accepted, depending on the policy of each agency, and the discernment of each officer.

The ID is issued in a workshop setting where folk are given a Know your Rights presentation and CMPD officers participate. Creating awareness and understanding between the community and the officers. We do not issue ID’s to walk-in individuals, or without the strict verification process we follow.

Starting in Greensboro, NC the Faith Action ID Network has grown to other cities and counties where organizations are now issuing ID cards including Guilford, Alamance, Randolph, Forsyth, Mecklenburg y Orange County. Law enforcement agencies that support this program include: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Burlington, Graham, Mebane, Elon, Gibsonville, Carrboro, Chapel Hill and Asheboro, as well as the Sheriff’s Office of Forsyth County and the Moses Cone and Wake Forest Baptist hospitals.

Limitations of the LAC ID Card:

– Not a driver’s license or a government issued form of ID.
– Will not stop prosecution if engaged in illegal activity.
– No impact on present or future immigration status.
– According to HB 318, community IDs and consulate IDs cannot be accepted by judge, clerk, magistrate, or  “government official.”
